Head louse are extremely unpleasant parasites that cause head lice infestations on a human host’s scalp. They feed on human blood and this will cause an intense and often unbearable itch for the person they are infesting. If you have come in contact with lice and have felt that horrible itch starting, you are probably on the hunt to find out how long it takes to get rid of them and how to go about it.
Head lice usually takes around two or three weeks to completely get rid of and make sure that they are gone. This is because they lay three to five eggs a day and those eggs take seven to ten days to hatch. The louse lives for approximately thirty days on a human scalp but after a short seven to ten days the louse is already matured to the age that they can lay their own eggs.
There are multiple ways to get rid of lice and some of them are chemical and you can simply go pick them up at the store. However, you can also take a more simple and private approach by using things that you already have laying around your house. This will mean that you don’t have to go out and spend money on products to get rid of the nasty parasites.
A fine-tooth comb is one thing that will be especially helpful when trying to get rid of head lice. Most households have at least one fine-tooth comb lying around so this is an easy thing to find. It works by combing the lice and eggs out from between your hairs. Another thing you may need is styling gel or petroleum jelly. These products will suffocate the lice when they are spread onto the scalp and then you can remove all of it after you’re done with a gentle shampoo.
Vinegar is also something that most people have in their home and washing your hair with it can make it more difficult for the lice to attach to the strands. Using a comb after soaking your hair with vinegar will be much more effective than simply combing it. Olive oil is another kitchen ingredient that will help get rid of lice. It suffocates them, much like the petroleum jelly or styling gel, and then it can be washed out.
Mayonnaise can also be put onto the scalp and then the hair can be combed through and this will make it much easier to detach them from the strands. A paste made of garlic has been found to be quite effective in killing the lice as well. These are all things that are commonly found in most kitchens.
Lice are uncomfortable, annoying, and hard to get rid of but it is definitely not impossible. Using items from around your house will make the process much less expensive and, when you do it right, can even make it faster and easier. These are all things that you are going to want in the situation that you have contracted this parasite.
